LivingTomorrow, a large installation produced while artist-in-residence at Nederlands Instituut voor Mediakunst, Amsterdam, will have its Australian premier at 24HRArt in Darwin. In the original work a database 'peels' video files from a server-based archive in a semi-random fashion to play to one of the three horizontally placed screens. The narrative was essentially designed for this kind of 'distracted viewing' -- in that the files can, and are, viewed in any order. The work was in fact originally designed to run over the internet to three screens in a public space. In Darwin, we will be seeing the 3 DVD version.

My work has always been concerned with representing the vitality of my own experiences as a Territory resident of 30 years, whilst being mindful of the broader universal issues that all humanity experiences. I am actively exploring traditional aspects of colour theory, formal aesthetics, historical research and the ideal of manifesting conceptual and philosophical concerns within the objects I produce.

Represented by Ray Hughes Gallery.

'Getting away with it' is the title of the exhibition by Adelaide-based artist, Sarah CrowEST. A DVD projection 'the joy of beauty' shows the self-inflicted torture involved in a grotesque and humorous approach to solving the dilemmas of bodily dissatisfaction. The cute/tragic creature engages in a series of D.I.Y. beauty treatments involving body sculpture and surface enhancement. The work doesn't seek to critique all attempts at aesthetic improvement but considers the inherent potential for both pleasure and disgust leading to a violence against the self. 'The joy of beauty' is a response to the situation where a multi-million dollar advertising industry promotes an often singular, ideal view of beauty and offers an alternative of sorts!

Neil Emmerson's practice is based around printmaking, with his prints often incorporated into complex installations of diverse materials. A recurrent interest in Emmerson's work is the representation of masculinity and male sexuality. The artist draws connections between the varied and complex strands of male socialisation and interaction. His installations often bring together parallel narratives that operate in a single space.

The TRAVAILOGUE series began in the year 2000 somewhere between Casey station in East Antarctica and Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This is the twelfth TRAVAILOGUE exhibition of works made on the road and shown on the road. Bandage material is used as a support as this fabric to me with its function of helping to repair the body hints at the travail of travel. The imagery depicts aspects of my meandering and habitual travels over the past two decades.

This project has been assisted by the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy an initiative of the Australian, State and Territory Governments. Supported by the Australian Antartic Division and the Austalian China Council.

With a fascination for intricate detail and photographic realism on both a large and miniature scale, these works depict often unsettling, yet highly aesthetic imagery, manipulating classical notions of beauty while celebrating a kind of romantic excess that is analogous with the process of painting itself. Sweet Bitter Sour - Curated by Yuliana Kusumastuti
An Indonesian artist, Ayu Arista Murti presents recent paintings as part of her reaction to social and moral issues. She draws on metaphors in language to explore the meaning of sweet, bitter and sour. At times the visual aspect of her work appears sweet, but the underlying message is bitter.

24HR Art presents highlights from Experimenta Vanishing Point: June Bum Park creates video works that transform everyday settings into extraordinary scenes. Through a simple shift in perspective an ordinary carpark becomes a playmat for matchbox-sized cars and the artist's giant hands direct the flow of traffic at a busy intersection. With humour and an undeniable affection for humanity, Park's works offer a different and very playful perspective on the mundane reality of daily life.
