Territory wide public art archive
Deadline: Wednesday 31 Oct 2007
Exciting News at 24HR Art! 24HR Art has been commissioned by the Northern Territory Government to undertake a scooping study into the viability of a new Territory wide public art archive.
The study seeks to investigate the viability of a searchable web based archive of all existing public art throughout the Northern Territory, the site will be a tool for visitors, academics, students and the general public. The study is due to be completed by the end of this year and should give Government a comprehensive overview of what public art exists in the Northern Territory, to evaluate the appearance of such an archive and the potential end users of such an archive.
24HR Art is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) to be included in a database of existing and past public artworks for possible inclusion in the archive. Community groups, individuals, government bodies, schools, businesses and arts organizations are encouraged to submit EOI’s detailing publicly accessible artworks considered to be Public Art.
Public art has been defined as:
• Permanent and temporary visual arts features and installations in design and construction;
• Well designed public spaces that embrace community and
encourage artistic and cultural expression;
• Creative interpretation of environment, heritage, history, community and culture;
• Art works created for specific locations;
• Art works produced through community involvement; and
• Collaboration of artists, architects and urban designers to create physical environments as features that integrate art into the fabric of communities;
• and in the broadest sense also includes performances, festivals, events and community celebrations in public places.
To register an EOI, complete the form ‘NORTHERN TERRITORY PUBLIC ART ARCHIVE REGISTRY, EXPRESSION OF INTEREST’ form in as much detail as possible. All EOI submissions must complete the ‘RELEASE DEED’ form.
Forms can be downloaded from www.24hrart.org.au
Deadline for EOI: Wednesday 31 October 2007

The 2008 City of Albany Art Prize
Entries close 1 October 2007Closing date for pre-selection Friday December 14, 2007
A new annual acquisitive art prize, with a $25 000 single prize, has been launched by the City of Albany, Western Australia. The 2008 City of Albany Art Prize is an exciting new prize for emerging and established artists. The prize is for a two dimensional artwork in which paint is the dominant medium (it can include drawing, printmaking and collage but the artwork must be substantially painted). This new prize, proudly sponsored by the Jack Family Charitable Trust, aims to bring artworks of excellence from throughout Australia to this regional city. All entries are to have been painted since January 1, 2006, and are not to have been previously exhibited in an art competition. The maximum size for each entry is 1.6 m (h) x 1.0 m (w). Artists are invited to submit digital images of their entry on CD for pre-selection. Pre-selection will occur in January 2008, and the selected artworks will be exhibited and judged in Albany. The City of Albany will contribute $100 towards the cost of transportation of each selected artwork to Albany. The winner will be announced at the opening on March 14 and the exhibition will continue to March 30, 2008. The winning artist will be flown to Albany to present a short talk on the winning artwork and the winner’s art practice during the period of the Art Prize.
