Administrator

Emma will be leaving 24HR Art after a year and a half as Administrator to complete her Bachelor of Visual Art and concentrate on her own practice. The successful applicant to the position of Administrator will be introduced in our next e-bulletin.

Gapu (Water) Billabong Series II & The Pandanus Project

Gapu (Water) Billabong Series II - a new series of etchings and fibre works from Ghunmarn Culture Centre at Beswick Community. Gapu is central to the artists' daily lives and to the extensive cultural knowledge system of remote Arnhem Land. The result is a series of delightfully whimsical prints. The Pandanus Project is an artistic exchange between weavers from the Beswick community and fibre artist Adrienne Kneebone. Replant: A New Generation of Botanical Art

Fiona Hall, Judy Watson, Debra Wurrkidj, Winsome Jobling, Marita Sambono, Irene Mungatopi and photographer Peter Eve. The intricate etchings that comprise Replant reveals the mystery of plants in the Top End of Australia through cultural stories, traditional knowledge and western science in an acutely observed visual survey of tropical flora by six Australian artists. 2009 Togart Contemporary Art Award

Entries Close: 13 Apr

The Togart Contemporary Art Award is open to artists who have based their practice in the NT for a substantial period of time or whose work demonstrates a strong connection with the NT. Entries for preselection are now open. In only it's third year, The Togart Award offers a cash prize of $15 000 for the work deemed the most outstanding by the judges. The winner will be announced at the exhibition opening on 13 August. A $5000 people's choice prize will be awarded at the completion of the exhibition. 2010 Next Wave Festival

Next Wave is currently seeking applications for two projects.

NO RISK TOO GREAT involves projects that respond in interesting and complex ways to the 2010 Next Wave theme NO RISK TOO GREAT. Applications are now open to young emerging artists seeking support for the creation of new works or projects in visual arts, dance, performance, new media, text, sound and more. Next Wave encourages applications for the creation of hybrid works that combine two or more art forms; from curators and collectives as well as individual artists; and from interstate and regional applicants. Next Wave Time Lapse Beginning in June, the project explores the potential for screen-based art by young emerging artists to reach new audiences. Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship

New Arts Grants

Applications close: 27 Apr

ART FOR THE PUBLIC offers grants of up to $5000 for visual artists who are undertaking projects to be delivered free to the public, outdoors or in prominent indoor spaces. We want these works to become a form of social commentary, communication and inspiration between the artist and the general public.

The JB Seed JUMP grant, primarily for musicians, has been created to encourage artists to expand their income potential in almost any area they require. The grants of up to $4000 will be awarded to 10 recipients in total with at least 3 of these granted to Indigenous musicians.
