Call for Arts/ Crafts people in Darwin
A photographic
project by Tom Dinning
ÒOver the next 12 months I will be embarking on a project to record,
in photographs, the work of artists and crafts people of the Top End. The aim
of this project is to record the work of our artists and crafts people and
highlight their work in a book, website and exhibition. The book will include a
selection of these people, their work and life in the Top End. The website will
be more comprehensive and will provide an ongoing resource for people wishing
to view the quality work produced by our creative and skilled artists and
crafts people. It is also hoped that an exhibition of the project can be held
during 2011. I would foresee this as being an excellent opportunity for the
art/craft community to share in the completed task. I am asking for the
cooperation of people who would like to be included in this project. I would
need a few hours of your time over the next 12 month to subject you to a photo
shoot and interview. It is preferred that this takes place at the location
where you work as the images I am seeking would illustrate how and where you
work as well as the art/craft work you produce. Those people who are interested
in participating can contact me on mobile 0417839582 or email christom.dinning@bigpond.com Ò

been appointed by the government to manage the new Resale Royalty Scheme for
artists. The scheme commenced on 9 June and entitles artists to a 5%
royalty on certain resales of their works. It also requires art dealers,
galleries, auction houses and Indigenous Art Centres to report certain
information about their commercial resales. More information can be found about
the scheme at www.resaleroyalty.org <http://www.resaleroyalty.org>
.
CAL is going to be up in Darwin for the Aboriginal Art Fair from 12 to 14
August and during that time we will be holding free information sessions about
the scheme. I am hoping that you might be able to help us spread the word about
the sessions amongst your members.
CAL will be holding 2 separate sessions; one for artists and another one for
art market professionals (art dealers, galleries, auction houses and art
centres etc). In the sessions, we aim to provide artists with more
information about how to register for the scheme and art market professionals
with information about how to comply.
