Call for Arts/ Crafts people in Darwin

A photographic project by Tom Dinning

ÒOver the next 12 months I will be embarking on a project to record, in photographs, the work of artists and crafts people of the Top End. The aim of this project is to record the work of our artists and crafts people and highlight their work in a book, website and exhibition. The book will include a selection of these people, their work and life in the Top End. The website will be more comprehensive and will provide an ongoing resource for people wishing to view the quality work produced by our creative and skilled artists and crafts people. It is also hoped that an exhibition of the project can be held during 2011. I would foresee this as being an excellent opportunity for the art/craft community to share in the completed task. I am asking for the cooperation of people who would like to be included in this project. I would need a few hours of your time over the next 12 month to subject you to a photo shoot and interview. It is preferred that this takes place at the location where you work as the images I am seeking would illustrate how and where you work as well as the art/craft work you produce. Those people who are interested in participating can contact me on mobile 0417839582 or email christom.dinning@bigpond.com Ò W: www.tomdinningsphotography.com

Dome Lab 2010
Presented by the Australian Network for Art & Technology (ANAT)

Deadline for applications: 3 September
WHEN: 31 October - 5 November 2010 Perth
The emergence of Ôdestination cinemaÕ and the proliferation of large-format screens in public spaces present a challenge - and opportunity - to filmmakers and artists working in more traditional screen formats. At the very least a new cinematic language is required, one taking account of the audienceÕs very different experience of stories presented on ÔframelessÕ screens. Fulldome, with its hemispherical screens and surround-sound, is an accessible and powerful test-bed enabling filmmakers and artists to experiment with and develop this new language.
Reflecting its provenance, most fulldome content to date has been educational and comprised of computer-generated animation, data visualistion, or a combination of both. Now, however, there is a shifting focus, with producers turning their sights to the entertainment potential of live-action story-telling for large-formats such as fulldome.
Dome Lab is a world-leading intensive workshop investigating this potential and the specific challenges involved in creating compelling live-action narrative content for large format and frameless screens.
Filmmakers and artists excited by the chance to leap beyond the frame and into the expansive creative potential of large-format, immersive screen experiences are invited to apply. Participants will work alongside a team of creative and technical luminaries including Academy-Award winner, Ben Shedd, 2010 Peter Rasmussen award-winner, Peter Morse and international fulldome pioneer, Hue Walker Bumgarner-Kirby.
Applicants must have a minimum of three years professional experience in their field (except for SDA Subsidy applicants - see guidelines). Selection will be based on skill-set, with a view to putting together four to five small production teams. Accordingly, applicants from the full production chain, including writers, directors, camera and audio operators, editors, and designers are encouraged to apply. To view and download guidelines and an application form visit:
