All talks are free and will be held in the Screening Room at 24HR Art, Vimy Lane, Parap.
24HR Art has received funding from the Australia Council International Visitor Program, in partnership with Canberra Contemporary Art Space and Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, for two international curators to visit the Northern Territory as part of our public and professional development programs, they are Mr Agung Hujatnikajenong (Jenong) from Bandung, Indonesia and Ms Fu Xiaodong from Beijing, China. 24HR Art will facilitate a number of artist studio visits and artist presentations to inform the curators of current contemporary art practices of the Northern Territory. As part of the project, the curators will travel interstate to participate in the opening week celebration events of the 17th Biennale of Sydney The Beauty of Distance: Songs of Survival in a Precarious Age, and then onto a series of artist presentations in Melbourne, Perth and Canberra. As part of 24HR Art education programs, Agung and Xiaodong will complement their Darwin visits by presenting talks on the contemporary arts of their respective countries to the local arts community and general public.

Australian Culture in China
24HR Art has received funding from the Australia Council Significant International Opportunities fund to undertake a major cultural exchange project as part of the Australian GovernmentÕs focus country program for 2010 – Australian Culture in China. The project, ÔA First Life Residency Project in LandscapeÕ, is a residency project that will bring together contemporary visual artists from Australia and China to collectively experience the landscapes and cultures of northern Australia and regional China. As the title suggests, the project is designed to be an intensive Ôreal lifeÕ cultural and creative exchange. With the artists acting as cultural anthropologists, they will explore landscapes as being physical repositories of human attitudes, customs and beliefs. The artists will be asked to consider how peopleÕs practices, beliefs and concepts have been informed and determined through living within particular landscapes. The Australian and Chinese artists will spend three weeks travelling by road across the Northern Territory visiting remote communities in Arnhem Land and the Kimberley region. They will then spend three weeks doing a road trip from Beijing to Lhasa, Tibet. The final stage will see the artists undergo an intensive studio session in Beijing for one month to produce new works for an exhibition opening in Beijing in November 2010. The 24HR Art Director Steve Eland has chosen the following artists to participate, Sam Leach, Tony Lloyd, Ben Armstrong, Cang Xin, Shi Jinsong and Wu Daxin.
