24HR Art - NT Centre for Contemporary Art has been commissioned by the Northern Territory Government to undertake a scoping study into the viability of a new Territory wide public art archive.

The study seeks to investigate the viability of a searchable web based archive of all existing public art throughout the Northern Territory, the site will be a tool for visitors, academics, students and the general public. The study is due to be completed by the end of this year and should give Government a comprehensive overview of what public art exists in the Northern Territory, to evaluate the appearance of such an archive and the potential end users of such an archive.

24HR Art is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) to be included in a database of existing and past public artworks for possible inclusion in the archive.

Community groups, individuals, government bodies, schools, businesses and arts organisations are encouraged to submit EOI’s detailing publicly accessible artworks considered to be Public Art.

Submitted EOI’s will form an appraisal of the story of NT public art, the quantity of works and an indication of what public art forms are valued by the community.

The Northern Territory Government definition of Public Art includes:

Public art in its widest sense is artistic work created for and located in accessible public spaces.

The Northern Territory Government embraces public art as a rich, multi layered interpretation of the Northern Territory's built and cultural heritage, natural environment and dynamic community represented through innovative, excellent and relevant artistic practice in well designed community spaces.
