The 24HR Art – International Studio Residency Program was launched in 2011 with the establishment of a large studio at Huantei Art City, Chaoyang District, Beijing. Through a new partnership between 24HR Art and Asialink the program is open to all Australian contemporary visual artists, however there will be a focus on giving international professional development opportunities to artists from regional and remote areas.
Artists are welcome to contact 24HR Art to submit an expression of interest in the program, however there is no open application process as all residencies will be awarded on an invitation basis only. Please contact 24hrart@24hrart.org.au.
Five two month residency periods will be offered each year, with two artists sharing the studio and accommodation facilities during each two month period. February – March; April – May; June – July; August – September; October – November.
Artists will receive free accommodation and studio space for a two month period, however there will be a fee charged to cover the facility running costs. Artists will be responsible for the costs of travel, insurance, living expenses, freight and materials and any contracted assistance (eg translation fees or personal assistants).
We will provide local knowledge and networks, and we have a support team of local artists and assistants to help artists during their stay. However, it is expected that artists will be as self-sufficient as possible and up for the challenge of navigating their own way through the term of their residency.
The residency facility contains 400m2 of open studio space, wet areas, separate office and meeting room with computer and internet access, and private outdoor courtyard. The accommodation contains a large mezzanine apartment, fully self-contained kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities, large living area and two air-conditioned double bedrooms. The studio and apartment have central heating.
The Huantei Art City area is a five minute push bike ride to galleries and restaurants of the 798 Art District, hardware shops, art supplies, supermarkets, fresh food markets and public transport.
